The reCAPTCHA enabled registration component is a replacement for the default registration component.
The component uses reCAPTCHA online web-service (http://www.recaptcha.net) to prevent automated abuse of your site and minimize bogus registration by using a CAPATCHA to ensure only humans perform certain actions. By using reCAPTCHA instead of other CAPTCHA implementations, you are helping to digitize books. Most other implementations of CAPTCHAs block visually impaired individuals, who cannot read images of distorted text. reCAPTCHA, on the other hand, has an audio test that allows blind people to freely navigate your site.
To install the component just follow the steps below:
1. Download both the recaptcha component and the modified login module.
2. Next install, through the admin interface, the component.
3. And follow the instructions that are presented after the succesfull install.
In a few minutes you should have your reCAPTCHA enabled registration up and running.
The reason that the releases are called Beta status is due to the fact that it is a first attempt at an installable joomla component. Both the enhanced registration component and modified login module are based on production core components, with production status.
Future releases will support new versions of Joomla 1.0.x and 1.5.x core registration components. Any suggestions for use of reCAPTCHA technology are welcome and considered for implementation.
Joomla 1.0.15 support

2008-03-15Just finished testing the 0.0.4 package with the Joomla 1.0.15 install. It works fine. Looking at the patched files for Joomla 1.0.15 I think there is no need to update the 0.0.4 package.
Simply install the recapatch component based on 1.0.13 core files. This should work fine. |
