Nothing else, no syncing, just a simple let me in or not. Can these tools do it? IF you're on the same server, there is a tool out there that will handle the MySQL auth I believe. I wrote something a while ago (its in the SVN repo for this project, anonymous and no password will let you in if you don't have JC credentials) that used the XML-RPC interface to inter-Joomla authentication, I never finished it but it was more of a proof of concept. Depending on what you are doing there are a few different options.
